Six shows as Vevo looks more like MTV

Vevo is adding six new music programmes to its roster as it aims to build out its offering (and look more like MTV). “Our philosophy is to develop originals that speak to people’s passions, give fans access to their favourite artists and, most importantly, deliver compelling stories driven by music,” says CEO Rio Caraeff.

The new series include reality contest show Busk Or Bust, Cover Stories, a comedy on classic album covers, music-based dating programme Hear Me Out, Sound + City, a city-guide to music scenes, Strange Island, a musical comedy series, and You Play Like A Girl, a female aspirational format hosted by Samantha Maloney, former Hole and Motley Crue drummer.

Vevo has also joined forces with Ditto Music to help ‘unlock a new source of revenue for thousands of indie and unsigned acts’. The deal means artists and labels distributing content via Ditto can now set up their own Vevo channel and receive royalties for any music videos viewed on the platform. Artists using Ditto include UK-based Maverick Sabre and Finch from the US.

“We’re really proud to be able to offer this,” says Jay Kerr, CTO of Ditto. “Vevo is an incredible service and this means that a whole new wave of indie artists will be able to take advantage of video monetisation.”
